Amazon.co.uk Review
Much like Richard Adams' wonderful novel this animated tale of wandering rabbits is not meant for small children. It is, however, rich storytelling, populated with very real individuals inhabiting a very real world. The animation is problematic, sometimes appearing out of proportion or just below par; but it seems to stem from an attempt at realism, something distinguishing the film's characters from previous, cutesy, animated animals. A band of rabbits illegally leave their warren after a prophecy of doom from a runt named Fiver (voiced by Richard Briers). In search of a place safe from humans and predators, they face all kinds of dangers, including a warren that has made a sick bargain with humankind, and a warren that is basically a fascist state. Allegories aside, Down is engaging and satisfying, and pulls off the same amazing trick that the novel did--you'll forget that this is a story about rabbits. --Keith Simanton, Amazon.com
***BEWARE*** this is NOT the 2-disc edition as advertised!

Fantastic film & excellent DVD quality (apparently the original "pan & scan" release left much to be desired!)
But my main gripe is with the false advertisement - BE AWARE: Amazon have listed this DVD as a "2-disc" deluxe edition, when in fact it is only the 1 disc version!

An awesome annimationReview date: 2010-03-21 Rating: 10 out of 10An epic movie based on Adams' book about a group of rabbits who flee their home in fear of death to find a new home, a paradise and the trials they go through.
Made in the 70's as a cartoon this was shown on television alot when I was young and my mother like so many others made the mistake of putting a small child infront of a cartoon about bunnys.
I wouldn't suggest this for children of a young age. There are scenes at the end that can be quite disturbing and bloody.
Right now that's out the way. The story itself is a beautiful tale of life and death and a struggle for freedom and their adventures. They stumble from place to place through a death cult, an evil facist warren led by the uncompromising General Woundwort and all manner of other trials.
The annimation is good and although if it were made now it would be made in pin sharp CGI i think tha cartoon makes it less graphic in the violent scenes.
Well worth owning and if you have seen it before then you definatly need this to relive your childhood.Blasted SnowReview date: 2010-01-20 Rating: 10 out of 10Good service all round apart from the weather which slowed everything down, still can't predict that can we.DisappointingReview date: 2010-01-20 Rating: 4 out of 10The film is very dated and frankly quite bizzare in places. It is sweet at times but I didn't find it sad or scary.Watership DownReview date: 2009-11-29 Rating: 8 out of 10This is a very moving and some what violent film (the most violent childrens film I have ever seen). The music score is fantastic and the song Bright Eyes by Garfunkel is great. The only problem I had with the film was that certain parts seemed to go to quickly and are not explained properly but other than that its a brilliant film and a must see for anyone.
The voices are performed by english legends such as Ralph Richardson, Harry Andrews and John Hurt.
