Editorial Amazon.co.uk Review
Rightly one of Disney’s most celebrated animated classics, Lady and the Tramp is the story of a romance between two dogs from different walks of life. On the one hand, there’s Lady, a golden cocker spaniel used to a very good life. And then she meets a mongrel, who goes by the name of Tramp. Clearly from the wrong side of town, Tramp and Lady nonetheless strike up a friendship, and when fate plays its hand, the two set off on their travels together, which doesn’t quite go quite as either expected. Made in an age where Disney animation was on tip-top form, there’s so much to enjoy here it’s hard to know where to start. The exquisite animation and carefully woven script though both provide an excellent grounding for the film, which is then considerably enhanced by a wonderful musical score. Add in that scene, often parodied, as the two share a romantic meal in an Italian restaurant, and a pair of characters that you can’t help but root for, and you have an unmissable classic for the whole family to enjoy. Lady and the Tramp successfully weaves together moments of comedy, adventure and music really quite seamlessly. And yet, at its heart, this is a tender, extremely well told love story, that rightly sits as one of the finest animated movies the Disney empire have created. Great stuff.--Simon Brew
An Excellent Classic Review date: 2010-08-25 Rating: 8 out of 10
I was amazed by this film as a child and saw it several times. It still encaptures my imagination and love how the characters are portrayed in their different ways. Enjoyed seeing it again. Well worth keeping for a classic collection.
ReviewsExcelent service, great dvdReview date: 2010-07-16 Rating: 10 out of 10This dvd is not availabe at the moment as disney dvds tend to bring out there films at for seluded times. this classic has no plans for a re-issue yet according to the officail websites so this is the best place to get it. the dvd that was supposdly used arrived sealed and in perfect working order. so it was new the dvd arrived very quicly and was just as i hoped. the price works the same as most mainstream disney films in stores so its very much worth it. buy it while you can it's enjobale to all ages !Still Disney's top dogReview date: 2010-06-15 Rating: 10 out of 10Still the top dog when it comes to quality canine animation, this now deleted two-disc set of Lady and the Tramp does a nice job of presenting Disney's first CinemaScope animated feature in all its original 2.55:1 glory. Even though it's one of the minor classics, it's still a master class in great animation and economical character-led storytelling. The visual transitions are marvellous, although the Scope frame isn't used as fully as you might expect: perhaps aware of the difficulties of shooting a Scope and a flat version for unconverted theatres from the same cels, a lot of the action is centered to minimise loss of essential information. Better still, all the characters are marvellously delineated and likeable, from the bit-parts to leading lady. Indeed, Tramp is still the benchmark for the greatest screen animated dog. And, of course, the film features what has to be the best movie date ever (who can forget the moment when Tramp noses his meat ball to Lady's mouth? Sorry, couldn't resist...).
There's an impressive array of extras too - storyboards of 2 deleted scenes as well as from an abandoned 1943 attempt to bring it to the screen, a 52-minute documentary on the making of the film, featurettes, extracts from black and white episodes of Disneyland promoting the film's original theatrical release, stills galleries and original and reissue trailers. The only disappointment is that it doesn't include the fullframe version that was made at the same time for cinemas that hadn't yet converted to CinemaScope which Disney briefly released separately on laser disc in the US in 1998 but has remained unseen since.
Wonderful film for all agesReview date: 2010-03-11 Rating: 10 out of 10One of the most wonderful of the classic Disney films and highly recommended if you haven't seen it before. My favourite all time Disney filmReview date: 2010-02-11 Rating: 10 out of 10bought to watch with grandson,he not seen it yet,but couldnt resist watching and it was just as good as I remembered after over 50 years. Not really dated at all. Recommend for romantics, the young at heart, and of course, dog lovers.
