I didn't get into Phoenix nights until I seen repeats of Series 2 on channel 4 which were hilarious and easy to get into and having seen this product advertised with series 1 which I hadn't seen I thought why not buy it and was not let down.
Series 1 I will say is slow to start off and you will need to get into it quick but of course its funny with a racist folk band singer about holy communion shoes(send the buggers back) the club being powered by a street lamp, a drunken horse, a German fruit machine, fire safety officer Keith Lard(who was rumoured to have got arrested for having sex with dogs!) and Max and Paddy dealing with drunken midgets on a stag do wearing Bolton football tops.
Series 2 I would say is the best of the 2 discs as the characters have developed more with a storyline after Phoenix is burnt down due to a stray lit cigar in a bin left by bitter rival Den Perry, Brian loses his liesence and his pride then decides to get the gang back together and reopen the club with a fun day that has a bouncy castle from Amsterdam have a giant penis on front which they disguise as a snake, Gypsies using real spray paint for face painting, reconstrucing the fire for a TV crime show and ending on a high running a stars in your eyes show as themselves!
Definitley worth getting with the funniest scene being Max and Paddy driving Asians to the mosque singing along to 'Armirallo' and encourging the moody Asians to join in aswell!
Also recomended is Max and Paddy's road to nowhere.

amazingReview date: 2010-01-20 Rating: 10 out of 10My brother got this for christmas, so I ended up watching it after never seeing it before.
Really really funny, ive watched both series 3 times now, one of those comedys where theres always constantly something going on in the background that that u might not pick up on first time round. Love the characters and im getting Max and Paddys road to nowwhere just because I want to see what happened to them next.
I read that Peter announced a 3rd series of this was written 3 years ago no idea why it hasnt been made, but cant wait until it does.BoringReview date: 2010-01-08 Rating: 2 out of 10Bought this video for my husband thinking it would be funny but we sat down to watch it after Xmas and found it very dull to say the least - usually we find Peter Kay to be funny but not this particular series - one word BORING!a must for any peter kay fanReview date: 2010-01-04 Rating: 10 out of 10great dvds loved watching them all again, forgot how funny they were, any peter kay fan would love them.simply brilliantReview date: 2009-10-16 Rating: 10 out of 10phoenix nights is the perfect dvd to put on if you've had a rubbish day cause it just cheers you up. every episode is brilliant and theres loads of little jokes that you might not get first time round. i like the way the writers kept it as just 12 episodes and a pilot just like fawlty towers and the office. i personally think phoenix is one of the funniest things i have seen so obviously i recommend the box set
