It's so English !
Review date: 2009-07-30 Rating: 8 out of 10
Having seen episodes of the Midsomer Murder series on our German television, I was pretty impressed by this densly packed, traditional English crime scenery. it's all so countryside with the lot of strange and typical British characters acting as they are deteremined to.
Honorable countrypeople are killing several other countrypeople for unrural reasons. Everything is just typical, as typical English as it can be - from my foreign view. Setting, plot and accessoires are pleasing and taking me out of my German routine in a truly English context. Unfortunately, subtitles are not supplied so it's sometimes hard to understand this mumbling inspector. Nevertheless, it carries me off into the perfect world of suspending crime. In a word: Not really exciting but at any rate an entertainig whodunnit.

Murder & MayhemReview date: 2009-05-29 Rating: 10 out of 10Midsomer Murders : The Sixth Collection - A Further 10 Investigations [10 DVD Boxed Set]
More delightful fun with Barnaby sleuthing around his neighborhood in search of the guilty parties. Cannot stop watching these series...have become fairly addicted to all of the goings-on in each episode.Carnage in the countrysideReview date: 2009-05-19 Rating: 10 out of 10With new partner in tow; the cocky, smooth-talking and tough DS Dan Scott; John Nettles' stolid rural copper returns for another collection of bizarre bucolic slayings, in the impossibly perfect-looking county of Midsomer. From murderous mayhem in Midsomer St. Michael, to vicious multiple homicide in Midsomer Mallow; our heroes are called upon to separate the wheat from the chaff, the red herrings from the deadly barracuda, and the innocent from the thoroughly guilty. Adultery, blackmail, greed and envy run through Midsomer like poison-pen writing through a stick of seaside rock; Barnaby and Scott will need all their resourcefullness and skill - not to mention the help of Tom's incessantly interfering daughter 'Cully' and his gastronomically-challenged habitual murder witnessing wife 'Joyce' - to bring the various murderers to justice.
Another great box set contains ten quality episodes from 2003/2004, and features a host of familiar TV faces from Lynda Bellingham to Joss Ackland. This set arguably represents a slight decrease in quality - DS Scott is nowhere near as good a foil for John Nettles' Barnaby as DS Troy was - however it remains a great tongue-in-cheek series and a great sunday night guilty pleasure. Presented in a faux book style case, there are some nice little 'making-of' extras here as well.Oh to be in EnglandReview date: 2009-04-14 Rating: 8 out of 10If you like "Midsomer Murders" (and my wife does), this is a perfect series: as English as tea and scones and Winnie-the-Pooh. But there must be millions of inhabitants around the place. Just think of the rate of murder (3 pr. episode in average), and they still turn up innumerably.
But it is a good series with perfect acting.Midsomer Murders: The Fourth CollectionReview date: 2008-03-09 Rating: 10 out of 10Caroline Graham's detective duo of Barnaby and Troy have become established as one of the hearts of the great British tradition of TV detectives. Arguably, John Nettles' performances (mature and under-stated) rival those of the definitive portrayals of Sherlock Holmes (David Brett) and Poirot (David Suchet).
Marvellous plotting, impressive acting and, of course, some stunning scenery to boot, this box set series of DVD's is thoroughly recommended to lovers of British detective TV.
