I missed "Blackpool" when it was on television and bought this on the recommendation of a friend. The singing at odd intervals took a little time to get used to but by "These Boots are made for walking" I could see what a good device it was to convey how the characters were feeling. Very well executed by all the cast.

David Morrisey is wonderful as the (almost 100%) amoral Ripley - a role that you can't imagine any other actor playing. David Tennant and Sarah Parish are also flawlessly cast, I loved all three characters and was glued to the TV as the murder enquiry surrounding Ripley and the tentative romance between Natalie and Carlisle unfolded.

Rarely do I finish a series and go straight back to watch it all again, but I did with this one. I'll finish episode 6 tonight for the second time and I might just watch it all again - its like a fairground ride when you were a kid, so good that you just can't resist another go.

The sequel does not have the magic of the original - David Morrisey did his best and I'm guessing that so many people wanted to know what happened to our antihero after the end of "Blackpool" that the BBC took the chance to follow up - but it just highlighted the fact that the original was so great because of the ensemble cast.

I loved the series when it came out on TV and bought the DVD set recently to see it again, partly because I am a huge David Tennant fan. Forgot though how absolutely brilliant David Morrissey was in this too. Watched in 3 sittings three nights in a row- brilliant, feel good despite the seemingly sad ending for Ripley Holden. A very incitive look at family life, great songs throughout, don't know why more fuss wasn't made of it at the time. Excellent casting, highly recommended for those of you who like something a bit different.

Saw Viva first time round and can't remember it, so won't bother with that looking at all the other reviews, it would be too much of a disappointment,

I highly recommend anyone go get this DVD, the acting is superv throughout and the music really compliments the scenes. Too often when songs are played in a movie/series you never get to hear the whole song, every song in this series is played to its entirety. Unlike a lot of reviews on here, my wifea and I enjoyed the follow up, Viva Blackpool, I guess you need to see it as a stand alone episode which has little to do with its previous series. The music and acting quality are top notch in this follow up also. It's hard not to admire David Tennant's work, from Dr Who to Casanova and others, this DVD set won't let you down.
